Terms of Service

Last updated: August 2026

These Terms explain the rules for using RiseYYC — the private community app for residents of Calgary apartment and condo buildings. We’ve kept the language as clear as we can. The core of it: be a good neighbour, be honest about where you live, and treat the community like the shared home it is.

1. Acceptance of Terms

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and RiseYYC (“we,” “us,” “our”). By creating an account or using the RiseYYC app, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the service. It’s that simple.

2. Description of the Service

RiseYYC provides private, building-restricted communities for residents of apartment and condominium buildings in Calgary, Alberta. Each community is limited to a single building and is accessible only to verified residents of that building.

RiseYYC is not a public social network. There are no public profiles, no city-wide feeds, and no way for people outside your building to view your community’s content.

3. Eligibility & Account Registration

  • You must be at least 18 years old to use RiseYYC.
  • You must be a current resident of the building whose community you join.
  • You must provide accurate information when registering, and keep it up to date.
  • You are responsible for your account and everything that happens under it. Keep your login credentials private.
  • One account per person. Don’t share accounts or create accounts for others.

4. Building Access & Verification

Access to each community requires residency verification — through a building code issued to your property manager or condo board, or a document check (such as a lease or utility bill).

  • Providing false information or documents to gain access to a community is a serious violation and will result in immediate termination.
  • If you move out of your building, your access to that building’s community ends. You may join your new building’s community if it’s on RiseYYC.
  • We may re-verify residency from time to time to keep communities accurate.

5. User Conduct & Community Standards

RiseYYC works because it’s a community of real neighbours. We expect you to treat the people in your building the way you’d treat them in the elevator — like adults who share a home. That means:

  • No harassment, threats, or hate speech of any kind.
  • No doxxing — don’t share another resident’s personal information without their consent.
  • Disagreements are fine; hostility isn’t. Keep it civil.
  • Respect the purpose of each space — notices are for notices, marketplace is for items, and so on.
  • Casual adult language is acceptable; abuse directed at people is not.

6. Marketplace Rules

The marketplace lets residents buy, sell, and give away items within their building. A few ground rules:

  • Transactions are directly between residents. RiseYYC does not process payments, take fees, or act as a party to any transaction.
  • List items honestly — accurate photos, descriptions, and prices.
  • No illegal items, weapons, alcohol, cannabis, tobacco, prescription drugs, recalled products, counterfeit goods, or live animals.
  • No commercial reselling or business storefronts — the marketplace is for personal, household items.
  • We recommend meeting in shared spaces (lobby, mailroom) for handoffs.
  • RiseYYC is not responsible for the quality, safety, or legality of items, or for completing any transaction. Use reasonable judgment, as you would with any neighbour-to-neighbour exchange.

7. Content Ownership & License

You own the content you post — your words, photos, and listings remain yours.

By posting, you grant RiseYYC a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, display, and distribute that content within your building’s community, solely to operate and improve the service. This license ends when you delete your content or your account, except for copies retained briefly in backups or as required by law.

We never use your content for advertising, and we never display it outside your building’s community.

8. Moderation & Enforcement

  • Communities are supported by volunteer resident moderators and the RiseYYC team.
  • Any resident can report content or behaviour. Reports are reviewed within 24 hours and are anonymous.
  • Depending on severity, enforcement may include content removal, warnings, temporary suspension, or permanent account termination.
  • We aim to be fair and proportionate, and we’ll tell you when action is taken on your account, unless safety or legal reasons prevent it.

9. Prohibited Activities

You may not use RiseYYC to:

  • Break the law, or encourage others to.
  • Harass, intimidate, stalk, or discriminate against other residents.
  • Impersonate another person, or misrepresent your residency.
  • Send spam, run unsolicited promotions, or scrape or harvest data.
  • Upload malicious code, or attempt to probe, disrupt, or gain unauthorized access to the service.
  • Use the service for political campaigning or commercial advertising to your building without consent.
  • Circumvent a suspension or termination by creating a new account.

10. Termination of Accounts

  • You may delete your account at any time in Settings → Account → Delete Account, or by emailing us.
  • We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, misrepresent residency, or put other residents at risk.
  • Where reasonable, we’ll give you notice and a chance to respond. For serious violations — safety threats, fraud, illegal activity — termination may be immediate.
  • Upon termination, your access ends and your content is removed from your building’s community, consistent with our Privacy Policy.

11. Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability

RiseYYC is provided “as is” and “as available.” While we work hard to keep the service reliable and safe, we can’t guarantee it will always be uninterrupted, error-free, or that every resident will be a good neighbour.

  • We are not a party to interactions or transactions between residents, and are not responsible for the conduct of any user.
  • To the maximum extent permitted by law, RiseYYC and its team are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service.
  • Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability is limited to the greater of $50 CAD or the amount you paid us in the past 12 months.
  • Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under applicable consumer protection law that cannot be waived.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless RiseYYC, its team, and its service providers from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your content, your use of the service, your transactions with other residents, or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada applicable in Alberta. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of Alberta, sitting in Calgary, and you consent to their jurisdiction.

14. Changes to the Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If changes are material, we’ll notify you in the app before they take effect and update the “Last updated” date above. Continuing to use RiseYYC after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms. If you don’t agree, you may delete your account at any time.
